Echolio helps people make a book of messages for someone special. This page explains, in plain words, what we keep, who can see it, and how to remove it. We don't sell your information, show ads, or use tracking or analytics tools.
What we keep
- Organizers: your email address (to sign you in) and the books you create: titles, names, dates, designs, and your settings.
- Contributors: the name(s) you sign with, your email if you choose to give it (so we can send your private edit link), your message, photos, voice message, and choices such as a chapter or signing anonymously.
- Recipients: hearts, replies, and thank-you notes you leave in your book.
- Photos: before upload, your browser shrinks them and, where it can, removes hidden details such as GPS location.
- To stop abuse: we count how often a connection adds pages. The IP address is scrambled (hashed) before it's stored, and the count is deleted within a day.
- In your browser: a sign-in cookie for organizers, and a few preferences kept on your own device (sound and music on or off, whether you've opened a gift, and links to pages you've added).
Who can see what
- Anyone with the share link can add a page and sees the book's cover, title, and (if the organizer turns it on) how many people have added a page. They can't read other people's pages.
- The organizer and co-organizers see every page, including contributors' names and emails, even for pages signed “Anonymous”.
- The recipient (anyone with the book link) sees the published book: messages, photos, voice messages, and the names they're signed with. Anonymous pages show no name, and contributors' emails are never shown.
- Each contributor can see and change their own page with their private edit link while the book is open.
These links contain long random codes that are very hard to guess, but anyone who has one can use it, so share them only with the people they're meant for. Photos and voice messages are stored privately and are only shown through short-lived links.
Services we use
- Supabase stores the database, photos, and voice messages, and handles sign-in.
- Vercel runs the website.
- While you record a voice message, your web browser may write down what you say to fill in its written version. Some browsers (such as Chrome) do this using their maker's online speech service.
- KLIPY provides the GIF library. When you search for a GIF, your words go to KLIPY, along with a random code for your browser (not your name or email). GIFs chosen from KLIPY stay on KLIPY and load from there whenever a page is viewed, so KLIPY sees the viewer's internet address, as any website does.
- An email service sends sign-in links, edit links, reminders, and scheduled book deliveries.
They process information only to provide these services to us.
Keeping and removing information
- Contributors can change or remove their message, photos, and voice message while the book is open.
- Organizers can hide or delete any page, and download everything at any time. When something is deleted, its files are removed once the recipient's published book no longer shows it.
- Organizers can delete a whole book (at the bottom of the book's page) or their account (on the Account page) at any time. This removes every page, photo, and voice message in their books.
- For anything else, ask the organizer of your book, who can make most changes for you.
Children
Echolio isn't meant for children under 13 to use on their own. A parent or guardian can add a page for or with them.
Changes
If we change how we handle information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
